As part of a collaboration between Eurovision and Open Up Rotterdam, first-year Illustration students at Willem de Kooning Academy were invited to design posters for the performing artists of Eurovision 2021. I created a poster for Vincent Bueno, representing Austria with his song Amen.
The concept drew inspiration from both the visual language of the music video and the energy of Rotterdam as the host city. With the phrase “Open Up…” required as a central element, I extended it into “…to be free”, visually reflecting themes of freedom and release. This was reinforced through Vincent’s illustrated pose and the carefully chosen colour palette, which together symbolised both personal expression and the vibrancy of Eurovision.
The poster was selected as one of only eight winning designs and was featured across Rotterdam in the lead-up to the contest, promoting the event while showcasing how illustration can bridge music, place, and identity
